WIFTA Newsletter June 30, 2021

Message from the Outgoing President

Please join me in congratulating Marie-France Guerette on her appointment as the new President and Chair of WIFT Alberta.  Thank you, Marie-France, for stepping up and taking on this important role.

Marie-France brings with her a wealth of past board experiences and under her leadership I am confident WIFT Alberta will continue to thrive.  I have moved into the position of Outgoing President and am both excited, a little sad, and also relieved (it’s been a lot of work) to hand things off to Marie and the new board.  Over the past 2.5 years some of our achievements include moving into a new office at the Orange Hub, putting on an International Film Festival, producings a podcast series, rebranding WIFT Alberta, creating a new website, creating new partnerships, establishing new committees, and organizing many networking and professional development opportunities (both online and offline).  This has all been achieved by a team of remarkable and talented volunteers (that include the Board).

I hope you find value in the work we have done and if you have not done so already, I encourage you to renew or take out a membership.  Memberships run from April 1 to March 31. We rely on revenue from membership to cover expenses like rent, insurance, website hosting and maintenance and to deliver our newsletter.  This past year, between the Edmonton Arts Council and Alberta Foundation for the Arts we only received $2500 in operational support – not enough to cover our costs.

I hope you and your families are healthy and well and enjoying our warm weather.  I look forward to seeing you in person as things open up.

With warm regards, Ava
